Poetry and Art
When I select a subject to paint, I am first attracted to it intuitively. There is something that grabs my brain by the collar, and without knowing why, it affects me at an emotional level. Then I intellectualize and my left brain starts to analyze light, color, shapes, and composition etc..
Sometimes I’m inspired when I’m in a philosophical and poetic mood. Here are some paintings and an accompanying poem I wrote, Atomic Resurrection. Truth is stranger than fiction…especially when it comes to mind-blowing science. Every atom in our body has existed since the beginning of time. Atoms are shared even before we die. For example, when we exhale, carbon(C) in our CO2 may be absorbed by a plant that is later eaten by someone or something. If we could tag an atom in our body and follow its journey from the beginning into the future, it would be amazing to see all its stops and how we’re all connected. We are all distillations derived from one pool of atoms and that’s where we’ll return. If each atom in our body is immortal, then we must be immortal. When I look at a landscape or sunset, I think the beauty I see is a result of atoms that were once ancestors we no longer remember and I ponder what contribution I will make to a future sunset. Spirituality based on science… even thought it may bear resemblance to some religious philosophies.
Atomic Resurrection
Our lives are not our own
We belong to what was and what will be,
enslaved,
by the limits of awareness and the confines of time.
Atoms present since the beginning,
Are transfixed to our souls by the rays of the sun,
As our hearts float to the heavens.
We are Raindrops not knowing
The clouds we once were
Or the oceans we will become .
Our tears are never aware of the sadness of their birth
Or the glory of rainbows.
We are the space between,
Too small to see,
Too large to imagine.
Electrons jump
with the excitement of children entering an amusement park,
And riding from one life to another.
Breathe deep.
We suck on the breast of our atmosphere
and we exhale,
Coloring sunsets that
embrace our hearts with awe,
And Make us feel loved.
Breathe deep
And exhale .
We nourish our bodies
With the legacy of ancestors
And we green the landscapes
With what connects us.
We return what was borrowed
What we now share,
In atomic resurrection.
